Awana-council time

General discussions for everyone!

I am a director for Sparks (5-8 year olds) and the leader handed us a sheet that has every Awana date marked with a director doing council time. I hate being in front of others and was panicking about this. I talked to the director and she told me that she was doing it all herself and just finding something for council time was hard enough. She said if I found a story or something she would read it for me or someone else would. She would be very appreciative just having me find her a story.

So that being said, do you have any clue what types of books or stories for these kiddos? I will need 3 of them as I'm down for 3 dates. Thanks.

They're supposed to be religious, right? How about those Arch series books? I read them when I was a kid and my boys still enjoy them today.

There's Daniel in the Lions Den, Loaves and Fishes, Joshua, Zaccheus, etc. http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Who-Gave-Lunc ... =pd_sim_b5

I always liked them because they rhyme. My other suggestion is does your facility have a projector to display some images off a laptop? You could put some neat pictures in the background while the story's going on. And you could then have the kids sing the corresponding Bible song with the motions. My boys would love that. "And the walls a come a tumblin' the walls a come a tumblin' the walls a come a tumblin dowwwwn."

There are some cute videos put out by Focus on the Family at www.jellytelly.com. They might be geared toward older (upper elementary/jr high) kids.
