Mad's on a new routine for her GI issues now, she's blocked up AGAIN. So we're doing a super clean out. I just gave her a mineral oil enema with NO results. She didn't even poop the oil/water out, and it's been about an hour and a half. ???!!!
She has her therapy apt right now, so I guess I'm going to just put her diaper on really tight and hope for the best!
I've never done an oil enema before. Is it normal to take a while??? With regular enemas, she usually has results within 3 minutes.
My experience has been with drink mineral and usually that works pretty fast. I like ky enemas best. They are given with rectal tubes and they are awesome. I can't remember has she been tested for Celiac's disease. Constipation is one of the signs....

Holy smokes! An hour and a half and still nothing? Poor thing! I mean, I hope this isn't TMI, but with an enema, it is usually my experience that it is VERY difficult to WAIT the required amount of time that they ask of you. I see that you posted this in the morning. Any update? Surely something has happened by now.

She's still dry!!! No poop yet. (Not even an oily toot!) How could she have retained an entire mineral oil enema for HOURS today??? Since I gave it to her, we've driven to town, had her therapy apt, she did that for an hour, had lunch, went to the pharmacy, picked up Jackson from school, and she's playing now. She's drinking her mag citrate dose #1 now, I'm going to give her another enema in a few minutes because that's just crazy to me.
She's been tested for celiac, and those labs came back okay.
ETA: Possibly TMI!! She's really really difficult to give an enema to, I hope I didn't squirt it up her vagina on accident!!
I was actually going to ask you if you're sure you got the liquid where it supposed to go!?!? When I did the regular ones, I could retain it for about 10 minutes (it says right on the bottle not to retain for more than 10 minutes). Doesn't she have to be "holding" it?? How does saline work differently than the other ones?

I think the oil makes it HARDER to hold. So I was expecting an explosion in literally seconds!!!
Umm yah. She held it for 6.5 HOURS!!!! She finally had a giant wet toot and got rid of all the oil, but only about 2TB of smudgy poo. (Her xray showed her rectum impacted, as well as a few other spots in her intestines) I just gave her another oil enema and she's sitting on the potty now, still holding it in!!
So I guess hooray for me squirting it in the right spot?? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with her nerves in her intestines, if that would make her not FEEL like she needs to go - even if it is full of oil enemas?? Because she certainly doesn't have the "I'm trying NOT to poop!!" face!
She has a follow-up Thurs/Fri - we're supposed to come in for another xray and to see what our NEXT next step is.
But I'm pretty darn sure this girl has a coffee filter in her rear, only letting the liquid out and keeping everything inside where she wants it. There's NO WAY anyone would be able to filter what they poop, after 2 oil enemas!!
I had a dream the other night that she needed GI surgery and a colostomy bag Hopefully it wasn't a glimpse of what's to come!!
Oh dear! No surgery or colostomy. They didn't see an obstruction?? When I had the mechanical obstruction, they did the super-sized, hospital-strength, touch your tonsils enema on me in the hospital and they about passed out when they brought me the stupid toilet by the bed and only water came out. That's when they decided it was an "emergency" and I needed surgery.
EIE YIE YIE I am praying for Maddie! My girlfriend has a son that was a afraid to poop when he was 3.... he got impacted a few times... he could hold it forever!!! They took him to a poop specialist (yes really! Not sure of her real title, but she was a specialist ) at Childrens, she had them give the enema and then hold him in certain positions so he could not keep holding it in... it was a mess but it worked! keep us updated on how she does... that is just miserable...

I'd call the doc.
They said that her xray just showed that she has a few spots in her intestines that are distended and stuck with poo - and that her rectum was totally full. All she's done since her apt last week (Thurs or Fri, I can't remember) was about 2 TB of smudge with that oil yesterday. And it wasn't hard - it was all fluffy.
Why did they make you poop on a bedside toilet and not a real toilet?? Thank God I'm not a med/surg nurse!!
