Post Re: Hair Care
I think it's just been updated actually. Tbh, i actually prefer the honey almdnd scent from the M.I site moreso than the one from the baremineralindulgence site. The honey alomd from M.I is stronger an smells a little sweeter while the one from baremineralindulgence smells very light (like a cookie) but is more almondy than honey. Just my observation...I like both fragrances (and the one from the kid's like is pthalates free) but I just prefer strong fragrances. I suppose the one offered on the site IS more suitable for a child, though. :)

Your daughters' curls are FABULOUS btw. Do you have any intention of submitting pics to the kids line? On the bottom of the contact page they say they're having some type of contest for those who enter before and after pics. If I can get freebies just for submitting pics..I'm all for it. I plan on submitting mine sometime next month.

Also, I'm experimenting with a homemade DT I've concocted, maybe you will have some success with it. Banana, avocado, mixed with coconut milk. I also added in some olive oil and honey. Gives my dds shiny soft hair so I'll probably apply this as a weekly treatment. http://leonsbeautytipsandsecrets.com/ba ... aged-hair/

I like making homemade stuff for my kids occasionally, so I will probably add other goodies to the mixture to see what happens. I use the Napturally Me & sulfate free shampoo once every two weeks, I use Suave's Natural coconut conditioner every 3-4 days though. My baby currently has a TWA, so I just apply girly curly to his hair to accentuate curls (nothing heavy...just keep it simple).

I re-tried blended beauty (I really wanted to give it another chance, but it will just have to go back to my medicine cabinet. Uggghhh...last week, I made the mistake of applying happy nappy styles to my dd's hair and now she has a LOT of build up. No frizz control. Just greasiness...I don't have an adversion to oily hair on my kids as it usually penetrates the hair shaft and soaks on in later on in the day....but this stuff RUNS down their neck. Just didn't work for our hair type I suppose, I desperately need to do a ACV rinse but the vinegar makes my dd smell like salad dressing. I gag every time I apply it. I heard good things about coconut vinegar, but I don't know if it will get rid of product buildup like ACV will. You seem to know your stuff in regard to AA hair, do you think you can help with tips on how to get this glop out of my girl's hair?

BTW: Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles would be the first thing I would give a way in a product swap....It's just too heavy for my kids. :upset:

Same here. I've just recently switched over to the baremineralindulgence.com site as I prefer the fragrances for my dds hair. I also have a new and cheaper hair regimen for my girls:

I noticed that the Curls By Nature condish was only offered on the adult line, so I did have to request it. I ordered that, the coconut milk smoothie, girly curly dual treatment, and Naturally Me & Sulfate Free. I also picked up some olive oil to make a homemade hot oil treatment and some cheapie Equate tear-free detangler from the dollar store.

I applied the Curls By Nature spritzing the hair with the revitalizer and applying it (it smells yummy and looks the consistency of a thick frosting but is actually very light) It kinda sat on her hair at first but accentuated her curls like you wouldn't believe. I left it on overnight and then rinsing it out in the morning...her hair was super soft, curly and frizz free. Added bonus was I didn't have to apply a leave-in or any type of oil. Afterwards I let hair slightly air dry, re-spritzed with revitalizer and added the girly curly...I've been doing this for about two weeks on Aisha's 3c-4a hair and have gotten elongated, shiny curls without any shrinkage. I only used the conditioner once (the results lasts for a long time) but I have been washing both my daughter's hair with Naturally Me shampoo (very conditioning) and with my other daughter have been doing braid outs and twist outs with the cocont milk smoothie. I do hot oil treatments every two weeks with olive oil, and if I run out of revitilizer detangle their hair with Equate. They prefer their hair styled this way and I do too. I think the swap idea is a good one, I have a lot of snaps (I no longer use them) and Blended Beauty products to give away. I don't know if it's just me or not....but the Blended beauty line has always given my kids frizz. :?

I also recommend the Goody jojoba Infused hair brush...it has oil infused in the brush so it leaves the hair shiny when you brush it...I prefer it over the denman. :ok:

Does anyone know what is up with the bare minerals site? I need to order some products for Shiloh, but it keeps giving me an error message and telling me something is wrong with the site. There isn't a customer service number to call either. Any thoughts or knowledge on this???

Has anyone ever heard of/tried either of these lines?

Mixed Chicks http://mixedchicks.net/index.html or MYHoney Child http://www.myhoneychild.com/home

I believe that the MYHoney Child products are natural. I ordered a sample kit from Mixed Chicks.

I want to try out that DT...thanks for the link. I actualy like the scent from baremineralindulgence better.

I didn't know they were having a contest, but I agree if they're giving a months worth of product away for free than I'll definitely submit my pics. I'll have to email customer service for a tad bit more information, but if all of it looks good...I'll submit pics immediately. I very RARELY do ACV rinses, in fact I believe the last one I did was several months ago. I love anything coconut though, so I'll have to look into the benefits of coconut vinegar.

I've never experienced product buildup from blended beauty...just EXTREME frizz.

Erin: I've heard good things about MYhoneychild, actually. Not as popular as other brands, but all the reviews I have seen have been positive ones. Can't say the same for Mixed chicks, but everyone's hair is different so you'll just have to try for yourself to see what happens. :)

I just got my Blended Beauty Sample kit, and tried it today. I really like it, especially the shampoo and light down and out styles. It was not heavy or greasy at all for my DD.

I did post about this in the parenting section, but I thought I should put it here, too. I've been experimenting with a few different products, but for the past two weeks I've just been using the Kinky Curly. I absolutely love this stuff. It moisturizes very well, smells great, leaves his hair so soft, and it isn't greasy! It's all natural too! I can buy it at Whole Foods, not far from my house, but it can also be purchased on-line.
http://www.kinky-curly.com/

I shampoo once a week with the Come Clean Shampoo, and then put on the Knot Today, leave in conditioner.
When he gets out of the tub I put Curling Custard through his hair. (This even makes his tightest kinky hair, on the back of his head, feel soft and moisturized.)
On in between days I moisturize his hair with Spiral Spritz.

That's it.

Hey guys I have quick question.

Do you guys know any tips for caring for extremely fine/straight hair? Everytime I do a google search I get links for AA hair care and/or how to care for "adult" straight hair.

Also, do you guys know of any hair styles that I can do to prevent tangles?

Does anyone know how to cornrow? I have a book that gives directions/shows some pictures (It's All Good Hair), but I just can't "get" it.

It seems similar to a french braid to me...is it? Also, whats the difference between a double-stranded flat twist and a cornrow?

I've mastered basic twists and braids, but have been starting with the hair in a pony tail and braiding or twisting the rest. I'd like to try some styles with the braid/twist starting at dd's scalp without a ponytail?

Any great websites? OR even better--can anyone explain it really easily to me?

Thanks! :ok:

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good deep conditioner? DS is over 7 months old now and his hair is super curly on the top and straighter in the back/sides. I would like something that would really condition his hair - currently we are using Kids Organic detangler, which does a great job detangling, but by the next morning his hair is super frizzy and puffy.

I love the Pantene products for women of color. I use it everyday on Katelyn and follow with the silken child products.

I use Pantene products for myself, but I was very disappointed to find that they use a lot of mineral oil in their products for black hair care. I really love the kinky curly products for DS.

Yes...I loved the "It's a Curl" line from curlz.biz. Their "Ring Around the Curlies" is a great leave-in condition...and it smells fantastic. Their other products are great, too. I used them a lot when Jarah was younger, and didn't have as much hair!!!

Thank you for your recommendation! Is there a specific product you use from their line? I think I have looked at them before but wasn't sure what to get?

I use the Come Clean shampoo, and then while he is still in the tub I comb in the Knot Today Conditioner. Just before taking him out of the tub, I slightly rinse that into his hair. Then I use the Curling Custard to bring out his curls. During the week, to refresh his curls I sometimes use Spiral Spritz, but just wetting my fingers with water works just as well. His hair stays nicely moisturized all week.
